Parrot on my shoulder

See - I told you I would have a picture of that parrot on my shoulder! The parrot is our 12 year old African Grey, named Hakeem, who surprised us all a month ago by laying 2 eggs!!! So, our "he" was really a "she" all these years. It took a while to wrap our brains around that shock, but though she is sometimes now referred to as "Hakeema" by Mark, she is still pretty much the same bird. She would have been a very good mother, but we had to take the eggs away so she wouldn't be laying on them forever without ever having a baby.

My friends of many years

My long-time (since grammar school) friends and I get together several times a year. This was at a Mexican restaurant in La Grange in late August, 2007. Usually when we see each other we laugh for hours on end and share pictures and stories. Let's hear it for good frineds!

Thing 5 - Flickr and Photo Sharing

Flowers will be my future decorating. I want big soft flowery chairs so that it seems like a lovely sunny day in my house all of the time. I didn't quite catch on to Flickr but I was able to add some of my digital photos from my camera. Not bad, huh? (I think "Thing 5" separates the serious picture sharer from novices like me!)

Thing 4 - EONS of friends and friends friends and friends friends friends...

I'm still into my purple mode. Social networking was kind of fun, but its a lot like having another blog which means one more thing to keep up with. I signed up with EONS (oops, now everyone will know that I'm over 50!), and I can see that if you are looking for friends with commonality it is a great way to go. I'm not sure that I can keep up a blog and an EONS account, though. Also, it is a lot like advertising, where everyone is trying to be cute and outrageous to draw attention. Too much of a competitive, marketing, "grab your eye" kind of thing. Maybe, because I'm over 50 (yes, it breaks my heart too), I just don't get the competitive nature of selling myself to strangers for no reason. There I go again - I'm not being negative, its just that I don't see it as a necessary plus in my life now. However, for younger people that need the networking and social aspects, connecting with friends and their friends and their friends friends ... can be fun and even helpful. A smaller harumph this time!

World's greatest

Our beloved 20 yr. old Molly, "world's greatest pussycat," who lives now to eat, sleep, and yowl! She might be older, but her vocal chords are like that of a 19 year old cat!! Isn't she cute?

Thing 3 - IM

Boy, did I ever just waste an hour!!! I need help!!! First, I didn't know that I needed a partner (ya coulda told us this when we were in Thing 2). So, it was a BOMB. Way too much going on here. I will have to see when a helper is in the computer lab to go over this. I can't see much use for this except kids in a classroom that can't talk out loud but want to giggle or say mean things about other kids or their teacher. Harumph...

Well, I talked to Rich and I guess I understood more than I thought. I was getting confused by the look of the boxes and thinking they were real when they were only "examples". I'm not sure I would use this in a work situation, however, as I would prefer to talk in-person because things are complicated enough and sometimes hard to explain in writing. Anyway, doesn't anybody remember the "art of conversation"?

Thing 2 - RSS

I'm wearing purple, so I'm following suit. RSS - I don't think I will use it personally too much because I already get a lot of e-mail from "groups" that I can't get to. But for my work, I guess it could be helpful to keep up with new books, new technology, etc.

BTW, there are some pretty hip bloggers at SPL - great blog sites with pictures and all.

I'm Back

Day two of the ten things. I have so many more books to add to my reading list, but I don't have time yet. On to # 2.

I wish I had a little "blog" expert on my shoulder instead of this darn parrot!

Thing 1 - Its a new day

It's a new day, and this is supposed to be in green print! Making the blog was much easier than I had thought, and I can't believe that I did it!
